    Hello. Can you explain what that lever is on the side of the cabinet with the taps? I don’t think we have that in the United States. I’ve never seen it. It’s so interesting. Is it some kind of a pump to get the water going? warm wishes from Los Angeles Dale

    • @MakeMiniatures
      @MakeMiniatures 19 часов назад

      Hello Dale! Yes, the lever is for pumping the water. This pump and the taps are based on 17th- and 18th-century ones. The rooms I am currently building are based on 17th and 18th-century examples, so no modern conveniences. They often had large rainwater reservoirs in the cellars. The pump in the kitchen was connected to the reservoir, so they always had clean water in the kitchen. 😃

    The quilt colors are so beautiful. In "full size" you might block the granny squares so they're all the same size and shape. It might not be possible in this small size though. But the squares look good as they are and once they're put together will look great! I'd like to see how you're going to join the squares! And I'd Love to see you make that dollhouse, in 1:24 would be great!!

    • @MakeMiniatures
      @MakeMiniatures 19 часов назад

      Yes, I saw that they blocked the squares on a kind of stand with pins on the corners. I thought I should make a miniature one, but I haven't yet. The video I watched to learn to crochet the squares had a beautiful way of joining them as you crocheted, but I preferred to crochet the squares first and join them later. Okay on the house! I'm going to make it in 24th scale. I will start in a few months after I finish my current project 😃

I am so amazed that you are able to do those Tiny crocheted squares. They are so lovely and I cannot wait to see them made into a blanket. And I am still giggling that the woman thought you were going to make a full-size blanket out of crocheted squares even smaller than your finger nail 😂 And a lot of the taps that you made for your kitchen. Just gorgeous! You were clearly the belle of the ball at that event. I’m glad that you got to meet so many nice people, including one of us. Everything is of interest when I see your posts. I crocheted many baby items in my past, and one granny blanket was of 9 colours with many similar tones to the ones you are using for the miniature blanket. What is your thread? It looks like silk. Also, are the thicker ones wool? As for the little house, it is so charming but seems to be quite an undertaking. However, knowing what your canal houses are like, I am sure you would be up to the task!

    • @MakeMiniatures
      @MakeMiniatures 20 часов назад

      Thank you Maroulio! My thread is cotton. Looks nice, doesn't it? The thicker ones are Sashiko thread, also cotton. I wanted to try some Sashiko embroidery (not miniature), but I thought the thread would work for miniature knitting, too. A sweater, perhaps. Or basket weaving, it has the right thickness for that, and the colours are gorgeous, so who knows...I think it will be a fun project to make the little house! 😃

    Lovely video! The yarn colours are very nice! I made my dollshouse from a book by Michal Morse I found at de Slegte secondhand bookshop in Den Haag in 1992! I thought I needed a hobby as I was pregnant with my first child and could not imagine having all this time to myself when not working full time, lol. It’s not as old as your book, but I do have some great furniture books for full size furniture that work for translating to 1/12th scale. My favourite is Period Furniture Projects by VJ Taylor.

Even though you probably didn't have as much time for it as you thought with a child or children around. I'll have to look up the books you mentioned. I just received another furniture book about the furniture in 19th-century Dutch royal palaces. Great book and a steal at only €2 (thrift shop but brand new).

I'm going to check into the clamp it looks particularly useful. Glad you found your lace piece. My Mom knew how to do this beautiful work (full size), I still have some of her original bobbins, and nope, I didn't learn, which is too bad. However, I did turn some mini bobbins and made the pillow and stand for my mini house. My Belgian grandmother was an expert lace maker. I have a roll of her lace which, sadly is yellowing because of age. I'm not sure what to do with it. Your taps turned out so beautiful. Thanks again.

      Thank you Urbania! How wonderful to still have the lace roll your grandmother made! Maybe you can gently wash it with mild soap, ox gall or some other mild fabric cleaner. Is it wrapped around cardboard or paper? That may cause yellowing. I tried lacemaking but found it difficult to hold and manage the bobbins. I love watching others do it though. 😃

The book looks fascinating, I love old books, especially the smell of them 😊, I might have a look and see if I could find a copy. I think building the house ftom it would be a lovely project to follow. Have a lovely weekend, (it's a bank holiday here on Monday, I don't know if you have the same one over there.) Best Wishes from Yorkshire, England 🇬🇧 😊

      Thank you so much Diane! Nope, just a regular Monday here this week ;) What lovely memories of you and your Mum, washing your hair in the sink! We all love modern conveniences, but such memories are great! Unfortunately, I can't find the name of the writer or the publisher of the English book. It just mentions the English title in the preface, "Home Mechanic". It does mention that the different chapters would have been published in 32 episodes, so maybe the English version was published as leaflets or magazine articles. I really don't know. If you can find it, I'd love to hear about it! 😃

    The taps turned out so well. Building another miniature home would be fun and an ambitious undertaking. I'm so happy you found the lace and bobbins.

      Thanks so much Heather! Yes, the miniature house (I'm thinking 1:24th scale) may be a bit ambitious. We'll see! 😃

    I love your videos. Watch them all and so happy about the Tudor! I’m building one now. Please please show us how you are building your 2nd canal house as room boxes and how you are putting it all together. Thank you!

      Thank you Nancy! The canal house is a long way off from finishing. But basically, there are several stacked roomboxes around which I will build the outer walls eventually. The little Tudor house would be an in-between project 😃

    Alison Davies has some incredible wallpaper this year. You can also download. But her finished wallpaper I ordered is better than any other. Susan Bembridge has amazing wallpapers. But I really appreciate the print quality of Alison. She prints on a very high resolution and looks very realistic. Something about the ink she uses.

      My pleasure Tara. I think sewing and knitting, especially here in the northern part of Europe, has been making a huge comeback. Much helped by RUclips I believe. I follow a few sewing channels of people who use old sewing techniques and research and create historical clothing. I've always found it fascinating. 😃

    Such a treat to see some of your collection up close, the folks at this exhibition are so lucky. I love how the curated boxes are unique but work in harmony as a set, that’s your eye for colour and interiors. You truly have one of the finest collections of miniatures made by talented crafts people, yourself included. Thank you for making this accessible and sharing with enthusiasts who cannot afford or are unable to collect themselves. Your vlogs are a delight and I love to watch and learn. Thank you ❤❤❤
